How we review and interpret research

The Institute for Scientific Information on Coffee (ISIC) is committed to sharing balanced, evidencebased information on coffee, caffeine, and health. ISIC is a not-for-profit organisation funded by five major European coffee companies. Content published on the Coffee & Health website is developed and reviewed by ISIC and is based on peer-reviewed scientific research. Industry funders do not influence the outcomes or conclusions of the research presented.

Through the Coffee and Health website, ISIC shares abstracts of third-party research relevant to coffee, caffeine and health regardless of outcome, and also regularly reviews research summaries to ensure that information is up to date.

Our website provides summaries of research exploring links between coffee and various health and wellbeing topics. Coffee is one of the most researched components of the diet, with studies examining its composition, levels of intake and preparation methods.

Each research summary reflects the available scientific evidence in the area, providing details on associations as well as insights into any differences related to gender, quantities tested, age, lifestyle and genetics.

All summaries are collated systematically from research published in peer-reviewed journals, guided by the following principles:
