Coffee & Health updates type 2 diabetes topic with the latest researchPrint this page 19 Apr 2013
The Institute for Scientific Information on Coffee (ISIC) has updated the type 2 diabetes topic on the Coffee & Health website. The following new studies are now included:
- A 2012 prospective study which found that, irrespective of the caffeine content, coffee intake was associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes.
- A 2011 Norwegian study examining self-reported coffee consumption data collected from 1985 to 1999. The results highlighted a moderate inverse association between consumption of both boiled and other types of coffee at the age of 40-45 years and the risk of being prescribed oral anti-diabetic drugs 5-20 years later.
- A 2011 study which found coffee intake to be inversely associated with type 2 diabetes among a population-based cohort of middle-aged Chinese people.
- A 2012 review of existing research, providing further support for the inverse relationship between coffee consumption and risk of type 2 diabetes.
- A 2012 systematic review concluding that habitual coffee consumption is associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes.
- A 2011 randomized control trial concluding that improvements in adipocyte and liver function as indicated by changes in adiponectin and feutin-A concentrations may contribute to the beneficial metabolic effects of long term coffee consumption.
- A 2012 study which found coffee drinking to be protective against glucose intolerance in a cohort of middle-aged Japanese men.
